Every time you pick something up today — baby, bag, laundry — exhale first, then lift. Week 2 starts tomorrow, and this is the habit that makes loaded work safe.
Seven days, mama. You're here. You didn't do a single crunch this week. You didn't sweat. Nothing looked like a workout, and I know some of you have been quietly wondering whether any of it counted. It counted. Let me tell you what you actually built.
What Week 1 was really doing
Somewhere in pregnancy, four things stopped talking to each other. Your breath got shallow and high. Your pelvic floor learned to grip and forgot how to let go. Your glutes switched off and handed their job to your low back. Your ribs flared out over a tipped pelvis.
None of those are strength problems. They're coordination problems — and no amount of core exercise fixes coordination. That's why mamas do months of workouts and see nothing change.
This week you put them back on speaking terms. Your breath learned to move your ribs sideways and backwards instead of just pushing your belly forward. Your pelvic floor relearned the release, not just the lift. Your glutes woke up. Your ribs found their way back over your hips. That's the foundation. Everything in the next twelve weeks sits on top of it.
Why this is the week people skip
Because it's boring, and because nothing visible happens. But here's what I see every round: the mamas who dome in Week 3 and can't work out why are almost always the ones who rushed Week 1. They loaded a core that hadn't relearned how to handle pressure, and their midline did the only thing it could — it bulged. You didn't rush it. That's the whole reason Week 2 is going to work for you.
What changes tomorrow
Week 2 adds load. Heel slides, glute bridges, real work — movements where a limb moves against gravity and your midline has to manage the pressure on its own. The rules don't change: Exhale on effort. Breathe out as you do the hard part, always. Never hold your breath. One limb at a time. Both legs moving together is too much load for a healing midline, and it stays off the plan for a long while yet. Stop at doming. If your belly rises into a ridge down the centre, make the movement smaller or stop. This will happen to some of you in Week 2, and it isn't damage or failure — it's your body telling you the load is more than your midline can hold today. Go smaller, come back tomorrow. If your gap is over 2.5 fingers, the loaded exercises go on alternate days. Breathing, pelvic floor and walking stay daily. Tissue rebuilds during rest, not during effort.
One honest thing about the weeks ahead
Nothing will look different for a while yet. Your belly won't change shape in Week 2, or Week 4, and probably not in the way you're hoping by Week 8 either. What changes first is function. Backs that stop aching by evening. Sneezing without bracing. Picking up a toddler without a deep breath first. Those arrive well before anything visual does, and they're the honest early signal that this is working. Gap width and tissue tension are two different goals on two different timelines. Most mamas feel the gap get firmer and shallower long before it gets narrower. That's real progress, even though you can't photograph it.
Today
Short flow. Ten 360 breaths, five balloon breaths, ten pelvic floor connections, ten pelvic tilts, ten wall posture resets, and your walk. Under ten minutes, on purpose. Today isn't about doing more. Then come and tell me in the group what surprised you most this week. Your back breathing for the first time? Your glutes waking up? How often you caught yourself standing with flared ribs? Seven days down, mama. Tomorrow we build on it. 💛 Juhi I'm a mama healing my own gap, not a medical professional. This is what worked for me, shared as a peer. If you have a gap of 4 fingers or wider, doming at rest, pain, a hernia, or prolapse symptoms, please see a postnatal physiotherapist before starting Week 2. mini challenge is challenge or experience It's a challenge — an action she does today. Not a reflection prompt. That's where Day 7 has drifted. "Reply with what surprised you" is a discussion question, not a challenge. Useful, but it belongs under the evening reply prompt, not in the mini challenge slot. Your original Day 38 one was right: every time you stand up, exhale and gently engage your core. Something she does, out in her day, off the mat. So for Day 7: 🌟 Mini Challenge: Every time you pick something up today — baby, bag, laundry — exhale first, then lift. Week 2 starts tomorrow, and this is the habit that makes loaded work safe. And move the reflection to the evening: 🌙 REPLY TONIGHT WITH: ✅ Day 7 flow done 🎈 Balloon breaths done 🚶♀️ Walk / Steps: ___ 🌙 Belly massage done 💛 One thing that surprised you this week That keeps the two slots doing different jobs — mini challenge is a daytime action, evening reply is where the group talks. Want me to check back through Days 1–6 and fix any that drifted the same way?
